Bhopal: Chief Election Officer Anupam Rajan said that the Election Commission of India has issued a notification on Wednesday regarding the Rajya Sabha elections to be held in 9 states including Madhya Pradesh. The nomination process for the Rajya Sabha elections will start from August 14 in the state. The last date for submitting nomination is August 21.
Rajan said that the nomination papers will be scrutinized on August 22. The last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is August 26. Voting will be held on September 3 from 9 am to 4 pm. Counting of votes and declaration of results will also be done on the same day.
The Bharatiya Janata Party had fielded Jyotiraditya Scindia as a Rajya Sabha member. On June 11, he resigned from the Rajya Sabha membership, after which the seat was declared vacant. The commission has announced the election schedule to fill the vacant Rajya Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh and other states.

The BJP has an absolute majority in the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly. The number of party members is 163. Whereas, the number of Congress members is 64. One MLA is from the tribal party. Whereas, two seats are vacant due to the resignation of Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Ramniwas Rawat. According to this, the victory of the candidate decided by the BJP is certain.
