Bhopal: A family trapped in a fire was successfully rescued with the help of a Sari, with nine people, including five children, stranded on the third floor of a building in Bhopal. The incident occurred around 3 AM on Saturday night in the Karond area, where a fire erupted in a junk warehouse located on the ground floor, quickly spreading to the upper levels.
To facilitate the rescue, a 30-foot ladder was positioned against the building. Firefighter Pankaj Yadav explained that the fire had engulfed the staircase leading to the third floor, making it impossible for the family to escape. Constable Yogesh Singh from the Nishatpura police station climbed the ladder to reach the roof and assist the family.
Neighbor Mohammad Raji played a crucial role in the rescue by securing family members with a saree and bringing them down one by one. The trapped individuals included 60-year-old Ikram Khan, who has a disability, and five children: Heena, Shaheen Bi, Humaira Bi, Afran, Sadil, Junera, Yamin, and Halima.
The fire was brought under control after approximately two hours of effort from over ten fire engines and water tankers that responded from various locations in the area. During the firefighting operation, electricity was cut off to the entire vicinity for safety.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with initial suspicions pointing to a short circuit or possibly the ignition of firecrackers.
