Chandigarh, Jun 7 (UNI) Farmer leaders have come forward to support suspended CISF jawan Kulwinder Kaur, who allegedly slapped actor and MP Kangna Ranut on Thursday over her old anti-farmer remark.
Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait, in a video statement, said that they were with ‘daughter’ Kulwinder. He said that Ranaut should stop giving provocative statements.
He said that there was anger among farmers and jawans and the incident should be investigated. He said there was not much in the case and Kulwinder should get bail.
Farmer leader Sarvan Singh Pandher termed the arrest of Kulwinder Kaur wrong. He said her action was the result of hurt sentiments due to the actor’s old remarks.
Bharatiya Kisan Union (Doaba) on Friday announced to honour Kulwinder Kaur. BKU (Doaba) President Manjit Singh Rai and General Secretary Satnam Singh Sahni said that they appreciated the action of Kulwinder Kaur a native of Sultanpur Lodhi Sub Division.
They, while strongly condemning the action of the government for taking Kulwinder Kaur into police custody without reaching the truth warned the government to mend behaviour and enquire the matter in depth. They also said that farmers could start another stir if the government did not stop pleasing the celebrity.
Jamhuri Kisan Sabha Punjab president Kulwant Singh Sandhu, questioning the government action, said at the time of incident Ranaut had not taken oath of office, and as such she was not a public servant.
