Fire breaks out at BTPS in Telangana

Bhadrachalam, Telangana, June 30 (UNI) A major fire broke out at the Bhadradri Thermal Power Station (BTPS), located at the border of Manuguru-Pinapaka Mandals in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, on Saturday night due to a reported lightning strike.

According to police reports, the fire started in the generator transformer (GT) of the first unit. Both units—one and two—were immediately shut down. Despite initial efforts to control the blaze with fire tenders, the fire was eventually extinguished using chemicals after a prolonged struggle. Fortunately, there were no casualties as the area was unoccupied at the time of the incident.

Officials stated that they are investigating whether the fire was caused by a technical issue or a lightning strike. Detailed information will be available on Sunday after a thorough examination.

The estimated property damage amounts to crores of rupees, an official added.

Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao contacted officials via mobile phone to inquire about the details of the fire incident.
