First case of sexual abuse on pretext of marriage registered under BNS

Bhopal: New laws have come into force across the country from July 1, 2024. Bhopal’s Ratibad police station has registered a case of having physical relations against a youth under new laws on the report of a girl. This is the first case of this kind registered in the entire city, in which physical relations were made with the girl by making a false promise of marriage and later the promise was not fulfilled. This action has been taken against a professor of a private college.

According to the police, the 28-year-old girl was formerly an assistant professor in a private college. About two years ago in December 2022, she met a 32-year-old youth named Mithun in connection with the admission of children. Mithun lives in Ratibad and is a professor in a private college. Later both of them started meeting. During this time, when Mithun proposed marriage to the girl, she accepted it.

In June 2023, Mithun took the girl with him and had physical relations with her. He continued to have physical relations with the girl even later. After a few days, Mithun married another girl, so the victim stopped meeting him. After some time of marriage, Mithun told the girl that he would divorce his wife and marry her, but he did not do so.

When Mithun again pressurized the girl to have physical relations recently, the victim went to the police station and lodged a complaint. Police have registered a case against Mithun on the victim’s report under section 69 of the new law for having physical relations with her by making a false promise of marriage. This is the first such report registered under the new law in Bhopal city.
