Manila, Aug 19 (UNI) The first ever official basketball game with rules allowing for 4-point shots was held in the Philippines.
In the opening game of the Governor’s Cup, which was held on Sunday in Manila, the Meralco Bolts basketball team beat Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots with a score of 99:94 (16:12, 27:27, 31:24, 25:31).
In the second quarter, US guard Chris Banchero of the Meralco Bolts scored the first ever 4-point shot in official games.
The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) announced the introduction of 4-point shots in July 2024. To score four points, a basketball player must throw the ball into the basket from behind the line 8.23 meters (27 feet) from the hoop. The three-point line is between 6.02 and 7.24 meters from the hoop, depending on the competition.
