Bhopal: AIIMS Bhopal takes a significant step forward in forensic medicine with the inauguration of its state-of-the-art Forensic Histopathology Lab on 20th July 2024. The lab, housed within the Mortuary Complex, was inaugurated by Executive Director & CEO AIIMS Bhopal, Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh. This will strengthen its capabilities in forensic medicine. In his address, Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh highlighted the critical role of histopathology in forensic investigations and expressed his commitment to further enhancing the lab’s capabilities in the future.
The newly inaugurated lab will facilitate advanced research and diagnosis in forensic histopathology, enabling precise examination and analysis of tissue samples crucial for medico-legal cases. This facility marks the beginning of a new era in forensic pathology at AIIMS Bhopal, promising accurate and timely histopathological evaluations that are essential in determining causes of death and assisting law enforcement agencies in criminal investigations.
Dr Arneet Arora (Prof & HOD FMT) in her speech brought out that, by histopathological examination, cause of death can be determined in 40% cases where cause of death cannot be ascertained by gross autopsy findings.
Forensic Histopathology helps to give cause of death to police in medicolegal cases and evaluate the cases for valid investigation. Besides it will also help in teaching and research purposes, which is mandate of AIIMS Bhopal. With inauguration of Forensic Histopathology lab in the FMT department will become self-sufficient in tissue processing and slide preparation in medicolegal cases.
Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh lauded the efforts of all those involved in establishing the Forensic Histopathology Lab and emphasized its importance in maintaining high standards of forensic investigation and medical education at AIIMS Bhopal.
