Former PM Vajpayee laid foundation of modern India: Yogi

Lucknow, Aug 16 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday said that former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Behari Vajpayee had laid the foundation of modern India.

After garlanding the statue of the former PM located in Lok Bhavan on the sixth death anniversary of Vajpayee, the CM said that along with becoming the PM of the country thrice, Vajpayee had removed the political instability of India. “Born on December 25, 1924, Atalji’s public life of about six decades was completely spotless. He took Indian politics to new heights,” he said.

Describing Vajpayee as the uncrowned king of Indian politics, he said that he was recognised as a universally accepted face in Indian politics. “Atal ji had given the country a model of good governance, infrastructure, and rural development. The Antyodaya programmes run in Atal ji’s government demonstrate his foresight,” he said.

Paying homage to the former PM, Yogi said that Atal ji had started his public life in independent India under the guidance of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay. “In 1957, he was elected MP for the first time from Balrampur (presently Shravasti). Atal ji had the opportunity to go to Lok Sabha 10 times in a row and Rajya Sabha twice, in which he was elected MP from Lucknow five times,” he said.

He said that today Atal ji is not among us, but his memories, his poems, and his values and principles of Indian politics will always give us a new inspiration. He said the country can never forget the efforts made by Atal ji to establish India as a global superpower.

Yogi was accompanied by Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, Brajesh Pathak, BJP President Bhupendra Chaudhary, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, former Deputy CM and currently Rajya Sabha member Dr Dinesh Sharma, former Jal Shakti Minister Mahendra Singh and many senior BJP leaders in the programme.
