Bhopal, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has stated that Madhya Pradesh’s favourable policies, developed infrastructure, and facilities like the medical device park are making the state a favorite investment destination for pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufacturers. A broad discussion on the potential of healthcare, pharma, and medtech sectors took place at GIS-Bhopal. Experts expressed happiness that Madhya Pradesh is moving towards becoming a major hub for medical device manufacturing. The 75-acre Medical and Pharmaceutical Park being developed in Ujjain has been declared by Chief Minister Dr. Yadav as the ‘best destination’ for global investors.
MP advancing with ‘Molecule to Machine’ concept
During the ‘Molecules-to-Machine (Healthcare, Pharma, Medtech)’ session at GIS-Bhopal, experts discussed the concept, stating that Madhya Pradesh is strengthening the entire healthcare ecosystem, from drug manufacturing to medical device production. There is rapid growth in pharmaceutical companies, active pharmaceutical ingredients (API) manufacturing units, and medical device manufacturing in the state.
Rising investment in medical device park
Mr. Rajeev Chhibber, coordinator of the Association of Indian Medical Device Industry, stated that 23 manufacturers have confirmed their investment in the medical device park being developed in Vikram Industrial City, Ujjain. Due to the concessions and facilities provided under the new industrial policy of the government, the cost of setting up units for investors is significantly reducing, which is encouraging more investment.
Enormous potential in medical textiles
In his inaugural speech at GIS-Bhopal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted Madhya Pradesh as a key center for ‘medical textiles’. He emphasized the state’s significant role in the manufacturing of surgical gowns, masks, PPE kits, sanitary napkins, and other products. During the COVID pandemic, India gained global recognition for the production of masks and PPE kits, a trend that Madhya Pradesh is continuing to advance.
MP among leading pharmaceutical states
Madhya Pradesh is one of the leading pharmaceutical states in the country. Currently, over 270 pharma companies are operating in the state, with more than 80 of them located in Pithampur. Pharmaceuticals manufactured in the state are exported to over 160 countries. Prominent investors include companies like Sun Pharma, Cipla, Lupin, Alembic, Torrent Pharma, and Alkem Laboratories.
Full support and approvals on time
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Yadav, the state government is providing all possible support to pharmaceutical and medical device companies for investment. The licensing process has been simplified by the government. Necessary approvals are being ensured within the stipulated time under the Public Service Guarantee Act.
Investment of Rs 17,000 crore and creation of 49,000 jobs
Due to the efforts of the Madhya Pradesh government to promote investment in the health and medical education sector, investors have presented investment proposals worth over 17 thousand crores in this sector at GIS-Bhopal. This is expected to create around 49 thousand new jobs. With the expansion of health services and the increase in medical educational institutions, medical facilities and employment opportunities are rapidly growing in the state.
Global recognition for state’s pharma industry
At GIS-Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh’s pharmaceutical, healthcare, and medical education infrastructure capabilities were introduced to investors from India and abroad. This has given the investment prospects a global reach. In the future, the state is expected to be recognized not only in India but also internationally as a model investment destination in this sector. Madhya Pradesh’s pharmaceutical sector has provided employment to over one lakh people, with over 270 drug manufacturing companies and more than 250 pharmacy institutions operating actively. Pharmaceuticals are exported to over 160 countries, and 39 active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing units have been established. The pharmaceutical industry contributes 25% to the state’s total exports, and there are 5 commercial airports and 6 inland container depots available for the convenience of industrial groups.
Global investors’ interest in MP
At GIS-Bhopal, over 300 industry leaders, policymakers, and health experts gathered on a single platform, where opportunities for innovation and investment in India’s healthcare and pharma sector were discussed. Thanks to the efforts of the Madhya Pradesh government, the state is not only moving towards becoming a new center for pharma and medical device manufacturing in India but also on a global scale.
