Govt takes strict & prompt action against complaints of food adulteration: Pralhad Joshi

New Delhi, Mar 26 (UNI) Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Wednesday that the government takes strict and prompt action against complaints of food adulteration.

Replying to supplementaries in the Lok Sabha, Pralhad Joshi said, “Government conducts inquiries as soon as it receives complaints of food adulteration and also carries out criminal proceedings if food items are not fit for human consumption.”

The Minister was replying to Lok Sabha MP Ravindra Waikar about steps to prevent adulteration in dairy products like paneer and khoya (milk solids).

“India has 242 laboratories. FSSAI has authorities on national, state and district levels, he said

He further said, “We use social media extensively for it. We will conduct inquiries as soon as we receive complaints and will also carry out criminal proceedings because it is a question of the health of the people.”

Replying to another question, Joshi added that National Consumer Helpline has become a big tool for consumer protection.

Replying to another question by Congress MP Amar Singh about how the government can control online gaming addiction, which is on the rise in India, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw acknowledged the problem, saying that the government is taking steps for the same.

He also said that “betting and gambling” is part of the state list, and they have the power to make the legislative framework for the same.

Vaishnaw further said that the government has blocked 1,410 gaming sites under the IT intermediary rules after the reports of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C).

Replying to supplementaries, Vaishnaw said that I4C provides a framework for law enforcement agencies to deal with online gaming-related issues.

He said action is also taken under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Section 112.

Earlier, Congress MP Manish Tewari submitted an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha on seeking to suspend the regular business of the House to discuss urgent concerns regarding alleged aberrations in the higher judiciary.

In the notice, he alleged that aberrations in the judiciary, according to Tewari, have raised concerns within the legal community and among citizens across the country.

“I hereby give notice of my intention to seek leave to move a motion for the adjournment of the business of the House to discuss a matter of urgent public importance, namely, that this House suspend Zero Hour and the relevant rules pertaining to Question Hour and other scheduled business of the day to deliberate upon the alleged aberrations in the higher judiciary,” he added.

Replying to India’s nuclear energy policy, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said, “Safety is the cornerstone of India’s nuclear energy policy and the Modi government is following the rule of ‘safety first, production next.”

He also informed that that the government has initiated steps to increase nuclear power capacity from the current 8,180 MW to 22,480 MW by 2031-32.

He said during Question Hour that India’s nuclear power plants operate with stringent safety protocols and international oversight.

“The radiation levels at Indian nuclear facilities are consistently well below global benchmarks, underscoring the country’s commitment to secure and sustainable nuclear energy,” he said

Meanwhile, the Finance Bill which was passed in the Lower House on Tuesday evening, and it is expected that the discussion over the Bill will continue today.

The Lower House of the Parliament will be taking up two bills for discussion today. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will move the “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University Bill, 2025, while Union Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal will move the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024.
