Guyanese PM Mark Phillips discusses cooperation in Renewable Energy with Minister Pralhad Joshi

New Delhi, March 4 (UNI) Visiting Guyanese Prime Minister Mark Phillips held a meeting with Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi today during which they discussed mutual collaboration in the renewable energy sector.

Minister Joshi said in a post on X:

“Held a Meeting with Prime Minister of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, HE Mark Phillips. Expressed our commitment to expanding mutual collaboration, particularly in the renewable energy sector. Looking forward to continuing our partnership in advancing shared goals and aspirations.”

The Guyanese PM is here to attend the World Sustainable Development Summit.

Earlier, the MEA spokesperson posted on the Guyanese PM’s arrival:

“Warm welcome to PM Brig (Retd) Mark Phillips of the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, as he arrives to attend the World Sustainable Development Summit 2025.

“This visit will add further momentum to the strong & growing India-Guyana multifaceted relationship, including in the areas of sustainable development & renewable energy.”

In November 2024, PM Narendra Modi had visited Guyana, becoming the first Indian PM in 56 years to visit the small Latin American nation, where around 40 percent of the population is of Indian origin, including the country’s President Irfaan Ali.

During PM Modi’s visit, the two sides had firmed up 10 agreements to enhance cooperation in several sectors, including hydrocarbons, pharma and defence.

Guyana’s discovery of vast oil reserves has catapulted the tiny nation among the top petroleum exporters. In 2015, oil giant Exxon Mobil discovered 11 billion barrels of oil off the coast of Guyana.
