Harris scores record advantage in public support over Trump in nearly year – Poll

Washington, Aug 6 (UNI) US Vice President Kamala Harris has widened her lead over Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump to four percentage points, giving her the largest advantage among Democratic candidates over Trump in nearly a year, according to a survey by the Morning Consult polling company.

“Harris leads Trump, 48% to 44%, a record-high margin in her favor in our tracking and the largest advantage for a Democratic presidential candidate over Trump in nearly a year,” the survey said.

Harris beats Trump by five percentage points among independent voters (42% to 37%) and by nine points among 18-34 year olds (49% to 40%), the poll added.

“More voters than not hold favorable opinions about Harris (48% to 47%). Her favorability rating is still better than it was before she launched her campaign — and better than Trump’s (46%) — but it has declined a little from a 50% high reached last week,” the survey added.

In July, US President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race and endorsed Harris to be the Democratic Party’s nominee for US president. At the same time, Trump secured the Republican Party’s nomination and picked Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate.

The US presidential election is scheduled to be held on November 5.
