Shimla, Mar 26 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh High Court on Wednesday rejected the bail application of former HPPCL director Desh Raj, one of the accused in the alleged suicide of Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited engineer Vimal Negi, whose body was recovered from the Bhakra Dam earlier this month.
Announcing the order in the open court, Single bench of Justice Virender Singh rejected the bail application of Desh Raj filed in the high court on March 21, 2025.
Confirming the court order counsel for the applicant stated that court has reserved the order on March 24 and court has rejected the bail application.
Desh Raj was booked under abetment to suicide case under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code replacement).
In the bail application, applicant Deshraj contended that he was named in the FIR, and was not even present in the office at the time of Negi’s suicide. Additionally, they questioned the credibility of the complaint, filed by Negi’s wife, stating that she had no direct knowledge of office affairs.
On the other hand, the prosecution argued that the investigation is still in its preliminary stage , with crucial evidence, including CCTV footage, seized by the police. They alleged that Negi was harassed and compelled” by certain individuals over financial dealings, which led to severe mental trauma. The footage reportedly showed Negi in a disturbed state inside the office before his death.
