Heart and lungs transplant will start soon in AIIMS

  • Robots costing Rs 60 crores will assist doctors in conducting surgeries

On the occasion of completing his two-year tenure, AIIMS Bhopal’s Executive Director, Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, sat with the AIIMS family to discuss the institute’s accomplishments over the past two years and to outline future plans. The event saw participation from faculty members, officers, residents, nursing staff, and other employees of AIIMS Bhopal.

Prof. Singh highlighted the unprecedented progress made by the institute in patient care, education, and research. He noted that OPD patient numbers had surged from 3.76 lakhs to 10.5 lakhs in the last two years. Major surgeries have increased by 92%, and minor surgeries by 300%. The institute’s no-refusal policy in trauma and emergency has resulted in a 110% increase in patient intake, while the number of admitted patients has risen by 180%. Beneficiaries under the Ayushman scheme have seen a 250% jump.

15 students selected for research opportunities abroad

Eighteen UG students participated in various national conferences, and 15 students were selected for research opportunities abroad. The Student Wellness Center at AIIMS Bhopal has provided consultations to 714 students in the past year.

Looking ahead, Prof. Singh revealed plans to commence heart and lung transplants at AIIMS Bhopal. The institute has developed a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the “One State One Health” initiative, aiming to provide AIIMS-level treatment across the state. Two robots, costing Rs 60 crores, will soon be acquired to assist in performing complex operations.

Saplings planted under Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign

101 saplings were planted in the AIIMS campus on Monday under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign. On this occasion, Director Dr. Singh said, today’s tree plantation campaign symbolizes our commitment to promote a healthy and sustainable environment. Trees play an important role in providing us oxygen, absorbing water and reducing pollution. By planting trees, we can not only keep the environment around us clean but also lay the foundation for a better future for the coming generations. He emphasized that individual efforts to plant and nurture trees can collectively make a significant difference in promoting environmental conservation and tackling climate change.
