Heavy showers lash state, downpour in Bhopal disrupts life

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh is experiencing relentless rainfall, with heavy downpours reported across multiple districts, including Bhopal, Indore, Narmadapuram, and Ratlam. The rains began on Thursday night and continued through Friday, leading to significant disruptions.

In Bhopal, the showers started in the morning and intensified into heavy rainfall by afternoon. The downpour caused flooding in low-lying areas and roads, creating challenges for commuters and disrupting daily activities.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for 26 districts, including Shivpuri, Guna, Ashoknagar, Niwari, Tikamgarh, Panna, Damoh, Mandla, Balaghat, Seoni, Chhindwara, Pandhurna, Betul, Neemuch, Mandsaur, Ratlam, Agar-Malwa, Ujjain, Shajapur, Sehore, Indore, Dewas, Barwani, Khargone, Khandwa, and Burhanpur, for Saturday.

According to IMD Bhopal, a powerful rain system has become active over the state, fueled by low-pressure areas in both the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea. The heavy rainfall is expected to persist for the next four days, continuing until August 26.

The combination of a cyclonic circulation and a monsoon trough is forecasted to bring more heavy rains to 26 districts, including Indore and Ujjain. In response, an orange alert has been issued, with the system expected to intensify further starting August 25th.
