Shimla, Aug 1 (UNI) Around 20-25 people are missing after a cloudburst in the Samej Khad area of Rampur area in Shimla district early this morning, District Disaster Management Authority confirmed on Thursday.
The District Disaster Management Authority confirmed that several houses, a school, a hospital, a rest house, and machinery from a hydropower project, including three cars and a JCB, were washed away early morning.
An official report from the police unit in Jhakri said that water levels increased considerably in Ghanavi and Samej Khad due to the cloudburst.
A preliminary report revealed that a cloudburst in Ghanavi caused a flood, resulting in the loss of 5 houses, 2 foot bridges, 1 JCB machine, and 3 small vehicles washed away along with the debris.
The increase in water levels due to a cloudburst in Samej Khad has resulted in significant loss of property.
Around 20-25 individuals are suspected to be missing, and officials have reached the location.
During this cloudburst, debris entered some houses. No loss of life has been reported so far.
The investigation is ongoing, with NDRF, local police teams, and local people participating in the rescue efforts.
The Old Hindustan Tibet NH-5 road from Jhakri to Kinnaur is open for traffic, while the Juri-Ghanvi road is closed near Ghanvi and the Jhakri-Samej road has been damaged near Samej village.
The Jhakri to Sarpara road is currently closed due to a flood in the Samej ravine, while other roads in the area remain open for traffic.
