HP: Volvo bus overturns near Bindrabani, dozens injured in Mandi dist

Mandi, Apr 13 (UNI) A Volvo bus carrying approximately 35 to 40 passengers met with an accident near Bindrabani, close to a local dumping site in Mandi district, early Sunday.

According to a press note issued by the Mandi Police, the bus was en route from Chandigarh to Kullu when the driver reportedly lost control near the 4 Miles area of Bindrabani.

The incident occurred at around 4:00 AM, sending emergency responders rushing to the scene. Preliminary reports said that the driver lost control of the vehicle, which led to overturning in the middle of the road, triggering panic among the passengers. The bus was travelling at a high speed when the accident occurred, although the exact cause is yet to be confirmed.

Police officials noted that the stretch of road where the accident happened has a history of sharp turns and reduced visibility, which may have contributed to the mishap.

Miraculously, there were no fatalities reported. Most of the passengers sustained minor injuries and were immediately transported to Zonal Hospital Mandi for medical attention. The hospital staff responded swiftly, ensuring that the injured received prompt care.

An FIR has been registered at Police Station Sadar, District Mandi, and further investigations are currently underway to determine the exact circumstances leading to the crash. Authorities are also checking the vehicle’s maintenance history and the driver’s condition and records at the time of the incident.

The police have urged all transport operators to ensure proper maintenance of vehicles and to adhere strictly to speed regulations, especially on challenging hill routes like the Chandigarh-Kullu highway.

They have also appealed to passengers to promptly report any unsafe driving behaviour during their journeys.

The district administration has assured that they are monitoring the situation closely and will take necessary action based on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
