ICGS SHOOR’S STRATEGIC VISIT TO ABU DHABI, UAE

New Delhi, 15 Feb 25: The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Shoor, an Offshore Patrol Vessel made a port call at Abu Dhabi, UAE on 15 Feb 2025. The ship is on a goodwill visit to Abu Dhabi, UAE, from 15 to 21 February 2025, reinforcing the deep-rooted maritime partnership between India and the UAE. This visit underscores the strategic importance of the Gulf region for India’s maritime interests and aligns with India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) policy, which prioritizes maritime security, regional stability, and economic prosperity. This visit strengthens bilateral ties by enhancing operational coordination and information sharing between the two agencies.

During its stay, ICGS Shoor will engage in professional interactions with the UAE National Coast Guard (UAE NCG), focusing on critical areas such as Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR), Maritime Pollution Response (MPR), and Maritime Law Enforcement (MLE). These interactions bolster regional maritime cooperation, improve interoperability, and enhance collective readiness to address emerging security challenges.

A key highlight of the visit is ICGS Shoor’s participation in International Defence Exhibition (IDEX-2025) and Naval Defence Exhibition & Conference (NAVDEX-2025), the premier international defense exhibition at Port Zayed, Abu Dhabi. IDEX / NAVDEX provides a platform for India to showcase its maritime capabilities, cutting-edge defense technologies, and commitment to fostering global partnerships for maritime security. India’s presence at the event reinforces its role as a responsible maritime power dedicated to safeguarding the stability in the region.

Additionally, 15 National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets onboard, as part of the Puneet Sagar Abhiyan, a flagship initiative aimed at raising awareness about marine pollution and advocating for cleaner oceans, will be undertaking outreach activities highlighting India’s commitment to environmental sustainability and strengthening people-to-people ties between India and the UAE.

Following its visit to Abu Dhabi, ICGS Shoor will visit Muscat, Oman, on 25 February 2025, further reinforcing India’s maritime partnerships in the Gulf region.

The deployment of ICGS Shoor reaffirms India’s unwavering commitment to regional maritime security, environmental stewardship, and cooperative engagement in the Gulf and beyond. As India expands its maritime footprint, the ICG remains poised for safeguarding national interests, ensuring freedom of navigation, and strengthening partnerships in alignment with the broader vision of a secure, open, and inclusive maritime domain.
