If Congress does not need me, I have options: Tharoor

New Delhi, Feb 23 (UNI) Shashi Tharoor, the Congress Lok Sabha member from Thiruvananthapuram, who recently made headlines for lauding Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government in Kerala, has now caused a stir by stating that he is available for the party, however, if his services are not needed, he has “other options.”

Tharoor made this statement on a Malayalam-language social media platform. Following his remark, rumours about his potential departure from the grand old party have surged, although he has refuted these claims.

Notably, Tharoor had praised Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to the US and the achievements of the LDF government under Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, sparking increased speculation in political circles about his leaving the Congress.

However, Tharoor dismissed the rumours of leaving the Congress, clarifying that he was simply raising concerns about his role within the party.

Since contesting against Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Shashi Tharoor, who was elected to the Lok Sabha for the fourth time from Thiruvananthapuram on the party’s ticket, has appeared somewhat isolated.

He had also discussed clarifying his role within the party with Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, but received no response.

Now, by praising Modi and the Kerala government and talking about his readiness to serve the party, he has also cautioned that he has other ‘alternatives’.

Following Tharoor’s statement, political unrest has intensified, and speculation about him leaving the Congress has grown stronger.
