New Delhi, Nov 12 (UNI) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted heavy rainfall over southern parts of the country and dense fog conditions in parts of North India for the next four to five days.
According to the IMD, the low-pressure area formed under the influence of Monday’s cyclonic circulation over the southwest Bay of Bengal has moved nearly westward and now lies over the southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of north Tamil Nadu and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh.
Under this influence, “light to moderate rainfall at a few places, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms and lightning, is very likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and Rayalaseema from 12th to 16th November,” the IMD said.
“Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over Rayalaseema, south Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, and north Tamil Nadu on 12th November,” the IMD added, noting isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal from 13th to 16th; Kerala & Mahe from 13th to 17th; Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam and Rayalaseema on 13th & 14th; and South Interior Karnataka from 13th to 15th November.
The IMD also indicated that dense to very dense fog conditions are expected to prevail in late night and early morning hours in isolated pockets of Punjab until the morning of 14th November, followed by dense fog for the next two days.
“Dense fog conditions are very likely to prevail in late night and early morning hours in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh until the morning of 17th November; Haryana and Uttar Pradesh until 15th November,” it added.
The weather department further predicted that a fresh Western Disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan region from 14th November.
No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over northwest and central India in the next five days, while East India is likely to experience a gradual fall in minimum temperatures by 3-4°Celsius over the subsequent four days, the IMD said.
