Indian archers fall short as South Korea advances to gold medal match

Paris, Aug 2 (UNI) In an exhilarating semifinal match on Friday, Indian archers Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara were edged out by South Korea’s formidable duo, Lim Sihyeon and Kim Woojin, with a score of 6-2.

The match began with a fierce battle, but despite a promising start, Bhakat and Bommadevara fell behind after losing the first set. South Korea seized the momentum and dominated the next three sets, securing their place in the gold medal match.

In an electrifying display of precision, Lim and Kim struck a staggering eight perfect 10s—two more than their Indian opponents—securing their victory with remarkable accuracy.

This semifinal marked a historic milestone for Indian archery, as it was the country’s first appearance at this stage in the Olympics. But don’t count out Bhakat and Bommadevara just yet. They are gearing up for their final shot at glory, aiming for a bronze medal later today at 7:54 PM IST.
