Individuals have the right to use either ‘India’ or ‘Bharat’: Omar

Srinagar, Sep 6 (UNI) Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said ‘Bharat’ and ‘India’ both are part of the constitution and individuals have the right to use either one.

“We are using both the names. If you see the Aeroplane of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in which he is leaving for Indonesia today both India and Bharat are written on the Aeroplane”, Omar told media persons on the sidelines of a meeting in south Kashmir’s Pulwama.

He said if the Prime Minister of India with any reason did not want to use the name India..don’t do it. “But at least the name should not be removed from the constitution without our consent,” he said.

“If you remove the name India from where you are going to remove it …do the name of State Bank of India would be changed, ISRO which recently did successful mission of Chandrayaan to the moon is going to be changed…IIT, IIM …so many institutions are there on the name of India and how many they will change”, he questioned.

He said if they (government) are concerned about the opposition parties having put their name INDIA..then we will change our name..”we don’t want to put the nation in trouble. We have not come here to increase the expenditure of the nation, rather to decrease it”, Omar asserted.

The National Conference Vice President said “if we will get a little hint that it is being done because the opposition alliance have chosen the name INDIA, we will change our name..there is no need to change the name of the nation”, he added.
