Indonesian President Subianto to be Republic Day Chief Guest

New Delhi, Jan 16 (UNI) Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will be the Chief Guest for India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations.

The Indonesian President will pay a State Visit to India from January 25-26 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

This will be President Prabowo’s first visit to India in his capacity as President, after assuming office in October 2024.

India and Indonesia share warm and friendly ties spanning over millenia. As a Comprehensive Strategic Partner, Indonesia is an important pillar in India’s Act East Policy and our vision of the Indo-Pacific, a statement said.

The forthcoming State Visit of President Prabowo will provide an opportunity for the leaders to undertake a comprehensive review of bilateral ties as well as to discuss regional and global issues of mutual interest, the statement added.

According to the Indonesian Foreign Ministry statement:

“This visit will be President Prabowo Subianto’s first state visit to India which will mark the 75th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Indonesia-India. The visit is set to strengthen the Strategic Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries which was established in 2018.

President Prabowo will receive a ceremonial welcome from President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. On 25 January, he will continue with several bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House. He is also scheduled to visit the Raj Ghat to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

President Prabowo and Prime Minister Modi will also witness the exchange of several Government-to-Government Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) in various sectors, among other health, culture, education, maritime safety and security, and traditional medicine quality assurance, aimed at further enhancing the strategic partnership between the two nations.

On 26 January, President Prabowo will attend the ceremony of 76th India’s Republic Day as the Chief Guest. President Prabowo will be the fourth Indonesian President to be invited to the event which is accompanied by the historical participation of 352 Indonesian military personnel in the defile and marching band at the Republic Day parade.

His visit to India underscores the flourishing strategic cooperation between Indonesia and India, particularly in economic, defence, and maritime affairs since the two countries reached an agreement on a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018.”
