Bhopal: Capital city of Madhya Pradesh Bhopal has been enduring almost 48 hours of intermittent showers, leading to significant disruptions across the city. The rainfall continued on Sunday morning and has caused waterlogging in various low-lying areas, hampering the daily life of residents and commuters. With skies remaining overcast throughout the day, the city is bracing for more rainfall as predicted by the meteorological department.
The bountiful rains have not only caused disruptions in the city but have also led to the overflow of all the dams in Bhopal. The continuous downpour has significantly increased the water levels in the city’s reservoirs, and authorities have taken precautionary measures.
According to official information, three out of the 11 gates of the Bhadbhada Dam were opened on Sunday morning to release excess water. The first gate was opened at 6:45 AM, followed by the second at 8:15 AM, and the third at around 1:30 PM. This action was necessary to manage the increasing water levels and prevent any potential flooding in the surrounding areas. It is worth noting that two gates of the Bhadbhada Dam were also opened on Saturday, but they were closed in the afternoon after the water levels stabilized.
Six gates of Kalisot, 4 of Kerwa opened
Similarly, the Kaliasot Dam has seen water being released from six out of its 13 gates, while four gates of the Kerwa Dam have also been opened to manage the overflow. These measures are crucial in maintaining the safety and integrity of the dams, as well as ensuring that the surrounding areas are not adversely affected by the excess water.
Since Sunday morning, Bhopal has been under the spell of relentless showers, with the skies remaining heavily overcast throughout the day. The persistent rain has led to widespread waterlogging, particularly in low-lying areas and on major roads, making commuting a challenging task for residents. The weather conditions have disrupted normal life, and the situation is expected to continue as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted more rainfall on Monday. The residents of Bhopal are being advised to remain cautious, especially in areas prone to waterlogging and flooding.
