Iran plans to launch 2 or 3 satellites this year

Tehran, (UNI) Tehran is actively involved in the development of satellites and plans to conduct two or three launches this year, Iranian Defense Minister Mohammad-Reza Ashtiani said on Wednesday.

“We are involved in the development and launch of satellites. Under our plan, we will have 2 to 3 satellite launches this year, something we hope to be successful,” Ashtiani was quoted by the Fars news agency as saying.

Last week, Amir Rastegari, the CEO of the defense ministry-affiliated Iran Electronics Industries, said that Iran would launch a homemade Earth observation satellite, called Tolou-3 (Dawn-3), by the end of the year.

At 330 pounds, Tolou-3 is Iran’s heaviest satellite. It will orbit the Earth at a distance of 310 miles, sending black-and-white and color imagery to Iran. More than 80% of the technology used to build it was made in Iran.
