ITBP arrests two in Eastern Ladakh; seizes 108 kg gold and Chinese items

New Delhi, July 10 (UNI) The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has arrested two persons from the Southern Sub Sector area in Eastern Ladakh and seized 108 gold bars weighing around 108 Kgs and other items including Chinese food items from them.

According to an ITBP statement here on Wednesday, the duo — Tenzin Targy and Tsering Chamba was apprehended by the 21st Battalion, ITBP on Tuesday, while the team was on a Long Range Patrolling (LRP) in the border areas in Southern Sub Sector in Eastern Ladakh to check infiltration and smuggling activities.

According to the ITBP, the team received some inputs about smuggling near Sirigaple, Ladakh and after reaching the area, the party came across two suspicious persons with mules. The duo was chased and apprehended. Both tried to mislead the patrol party saying that they were collecting medicinal plants. Upon search, the team found huge quantity of gold and other items from them.

The seized items included two mobile phones, one binocular, Chinese food items, two ponies, two knives among others.

The ITBP patrol party later handed over the two suspects along with the seized items to the custom department officers for further questioning.
