New Delhi, Mar 26 (UNI) Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh on Wednesday moved a privilege notice against Union Home Minister Amit Shah accusing him of “casting aspersions” on Sonia Gandhi.
In a letter to the Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, Ramesh alleged, “While replying to the debate on Disaster Management Bill, 2024 on Tuesday, the Home Minister made unfounded allegations against Sonia Gandhi with a premeditated motive to malign her reputation”.
He said that the statement of Shah tentamounts to “breach of privilege” and is “contempt of the house as well”.
The Congress MP in his letter even quoted a portion of the reply of Amit Shah.
In the letter, Ramesh stated that “Even though the Home Minister didn’t take the name of Sonia Gandhi but he had categorically by implication referred to her and imputed motives to her vis-a-vis the functioning of the National Prime Minister’s Relief Fund (NPMRF)”.
The letter further said, “In view of the foregoing, privilege proceedings may be initiated against Amit Shah, Union Home Minister”.
