Jammu AIIMS spearheads ground-breaking research initiatives

Jammu, July 11 (UNI) Unlike many institutions, Jammu AIIMS distinguishes itself by emphasizing rigorous healthcare research in addition to providing comprehensive patient care, ensuring a holistic approach to health and well-being.

Executive Director and CEO, AIIMS Jammu, Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta on Thursday said, “Upon relocating to the Vijaypur campus, AIIMS Jammu’s very First initiative was to organize a 15-day basic research methodology workshop in collaboration with ICMR-NIE (National Institute of Epidemiology). During this workshop, all faculty members received training on the latest research modules.”

Notably, Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda during his recent visit to Jammu AIIMS also echoed “Jai Anusandhan” given by the Prime Minister during his address to the faculty, students, and nurses.

He further added that the country places great hope in all the faculty and students to elevate India to the next level in healthcare, setting a benchmark for the rest of the world.

The Executive Director further said, “The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Jammu is proud to announce a series of innovative research initiatives and collaborations to revolutionize medical research in the region and put Jammu on the global map of scientific excellence.”

Jammu AIIMS has collaborated with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jammu to conduct cutting-edge research projects in biomedical engineering and this partnership aims to leverage the expertise of both institutions to develop innovative solutions for healthcare challenges, said the AIIMS spokesperson.

Furthermore, she said, “AIIMS Jammu is actively participating in multiple multicentric trials, both at national and global levels, funded by reputed agencies such as the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). These collaborations underscore the Institution’s growing prominence in the international research community.”

The Dean (Research) and MS-AIIMS Jammu, Lt Gen Sunil Kant, said, “The Research Section of AIIMS Jammu has received an overwhelming response from its faculty, nursing staff, and students, with over 81 research proposals submitted till date.” He further added, “To encourage and nurture the next generation of medical researchers, AIIMS Jammu has launched the AIIMS Undergraduate Research Advancement Scheme (AURAS).

This scholarship program provides cash honorariums to undergraduate students, enabling them to conduct short research projects during their vacations under the mentorship of AIIMS Jammu faculty.

The initiative aims to introduce students to medical research and foster a culture of scientific environment from an early stage. Not only this, recognizing the vital role of nursing staff in healthcare research, AIIMS Jammu has introduced a small grant research scheme funded by the institute. This program encourages nursing professionals to contribute to evidence-based practice and improve patient care through research.”

The Executive Director AIIMS Jammu shared “AIIMS Jammu is going to initiate a faculty exchange program with internationally reputed institutions to promote global knowledge exchange. This program facilitates the cross-pollination of ideas and best practices, further enhancing the institute’s research and education quality. To recognize and encourage excellence in research, AIIMS Jammu has recently instituted various awards to honour outstanding contributions by faculty, staff, and students in medical research.”

Prof Shakti Gupta said, “These initiatives not only bring immense pride to our region by placing Jammu on the world map of medical research but also promise significant benefits for public health. The ultimate beneficiaries of our evidence-based research efforts will be the general public as we strive to improve healthcare outcomes and quality of life for all.”
