Nadir Rashid (72), the proprietor of the renowned Jehanuma Palace Heritage Hotel in Bhopal, reportedly took his own life by shooting himself with a revolver at his residence on Wednesday morning.
According to Bhopal Commissioner of Police Harinarayan Chari Mishra, the family notified authorities about the incident around 9:30 am. The body was subsequently taken for postmortem examination at Hamidia Hospital.
Police reports indicate that Nadir Rashid ended his life by gunshot in the bathroom of his residence, ‘Shyamla Kothi,’ situated in the affluent Nadir colony atop Shyamla Hills, close to the official residence of the state chief minister.
Sources reveal that Rashid had been battling depression for the past six months due to his diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease and subsequent treatment.
Being associated with the former ruling Nawab family of Bhopal and the Nawabs of Pataudi, Nadir Rashid leaves behind a legacy as the owner of the award-winning five-star heritage hotel, Jehanuma Palace.
No suicide note was found by the police, who continue to investigate the matter.
Rashid is survived by two sons and a daughter. His wife’s health deteriorated upon receiving the news of her husband’s demise and she is currently under medical care.
