New Delhi, Nov 4 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday, while hearing a plea on an order passed by the Jharkhand High Court against illegal immigration, said that the latter had no jurisdiction in the matter.
The Jharkhand High Court had asked the state government to form fact-finding committee to rectify issues of alleged illegal movement of refugees from Bangladesh.
A Bench comprising Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah asked, ” What was the need for the High Court to interfere? You (State) have independent powers under statute.
Justice Dhulia said It is a serious matter. I was not able to go through the files.
Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal appearing for State of Jharkhand said that the speeches are being made everyday based on this. We seek stay, Sibal said.
The Senior Advocte further said that some data should be provided to them on illigal immigrants. “we are not a border State’, he said.
The Top Court posted the matter to be taken up on Friday.
