Jio hikes mobile tariff by up to 27 pc for all plans

New Delhi, June 27 (UNI) Leading telecom operator Reliance Jio Infocomm on Thursday announced massive up to 27 percent hike in mobile tariff from July 3 and made unlimited 5G services on specific tariff plans with higher tariffs.

As on April 30 this year Jio’s market share is 40.48 per cent followed by Airtel at 33.12 per cent and Vodafone Idea at 18.77 per cent.

Existing plan of Rs 155 a month (28 days validity) will now cost Rs 189 with same validity along with 2GB data per day. While the annual plans of Rs 1559 (336 days validity) will now cost Rs 1899 with fixed data of 24 GB and Rs 2999 plan (365 days validity) will now come for Rs 3599 with up to 2.5 GB data per day.

Commenting on the development, Akash Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, said, “The introduction of new plans is a step in the direction of furthering industry innovation and driving sustainable growth through investments in 5G and AI technology. The hike in tariff comes a day after government auctioned spectrum and Jio was one of the lowest bidder as it bought spectrum for Rs 973.62 crore only. This is first tariff revision in more than two years.

Upholding the Jio promise of providing the best-quality service at the most affordable prices globally, Jio customers will continue to be the biggest beneficiaries, Reliance Industries said in a regulatory filing with the stock exchanges.

The company, however, said that 250 million feature phone users in India remain stuck in the 2G era, unable to access digital services. To empower these users with a Digital Life, 4G-enabled JioBharat/JioPhone was introduced. JioBharat/JioPhone users will continue to enjoy the existing tariffs.
