MLAs express faith in Nath; allege tampering with EVMs
Bhopal: After the crushing defeat in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, a meeting of all the authorized candidates was called by the Congress today, in which Shri Kamal Nath has asked for two separate reports from all the candidates regarding the elections and organization.
After the meeting amid speculations about change of leadership following the party’s crushing defeat, all the candidates and MLAs also expressed faith in the leadership of Kamal Nath.
According to the information given by the party, the review meeting of Congress was held in the presence of senior Congress leaders including State Congress President Shri Kamal Nath, former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh.
Cong had suffered more crushing defeat in 1977
Shri Kamal Nath said in the meeting that Congress had suffered more crushing defeat in 1977, at that time top leaders of the country like Mrs. Indira Gandhi and Sanjay Gandhi had also lost the elections. The whole atmosphere seemed against Congress, but everyone united and came to the field. In the elections held three years later, Indira Gandhi formed a government with an absolute majority with more than 300 seats.
In the same sequence, while boosting the morale of the candidates, he said that even now Congress has to start preparing for the Lok Sabha elections to be held after four months and form its government with full strength.
Shri Kamal Nath said that all the candidates and MLAs should thoroughly review their elections and send two separate reports within the next ten days. Analysis of the elections in one report and review of the organization in the other report should be sent secretly. He said that he will soon tour the entire state and the entire party will prepare for the Lok Sabha elections.
In the meeting, many candidates alleged tampering with EVMs and said that where Congress had lost by a huge margin, more than 100 EVM machines were found charged up to 99 percent at the time of counting, while they had been used for more than 10 hours during the voting. In such a situation, suspicion of replacement of EVMs arises. He alleged that when Congress was getting a huge majority in the postal ballot, the sudden reduction in the machine raises doubts.
Shri Kamal Nath said that he has received many complaints regarding EVMs. He will raise this issue before the national leadership in the meetings in Delhi.
All the winning MLAs and candidates of Congress including former Union Minister Suresh Pachauri, Kantilal Bhuria, Ajay Singh, Dr. Govind Singh, Sajjan Singh Verma, Kamleshwar Patel, Ramnivas Rawat, Rameshwar Neekhara, Aunkar Markam were present in the meeting.
