Holenarasipur (Hassan), June 23 (UNI) Janata Dal-Secular leader Suraj Revanna was arrested on Sunday for allegedly sodomising a male party worker. Suraj, taken into custody following a complaint lodged by a young man from Arkalgud taluk, is the brother of Prajwal Revanna – already embroiled in multiple sexual assault cases, Suraj has, however, rubbished the charges, dubbing them “politically motivated”.
According to the complaint, the incident occurred on June 16 at Suraj’s farmhouse in Gannikada village, Holenarasipur taluk. The complainant alleged that he was coerced into a “homosexual act” by the legislator. Despite initially facing resistance from the Holenarasipur police, the victim managed to file his complaint at the DG&IGP’s office in Bengaluru.
The DG&IGP has directed the Hassan SP to take immediate action, leading to a case being registered under Sections 377, 342, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code.
The complaint details how Suraj threatened the young man with severe consequences if he revealed the incident. Suraj allegedly boasted about having murdered three people and threatened to kill the complainant’s family, while emphasising his family’s political power, including his grandfather being a former Prime Minister and his uncle being a Union Minister.
Reacting to the allegations, Suraj claimed they were politically motivated. “The allegations are unfounded. We have also filed a counter-complaint against the accuser. The truth will be revealed soon,” he said.
Following these developments, the Holenarasipur Rural Police brought Suraj from his farmhouse to the Cyber, Economic, and Narcotics (CEN) police station in Hassan on Saturday evening for questioning related to the blackmail allegations made by the victim.
In a related matter, Suraj’s brother, Prajwal Revanna is currently in police custody for allegedly sexually assaulting several women. Prajwal was arrested on May 31 upon his return from Germany, where he had been staying after multiple cases of rape and intimidation were registered against him. Their parents, HD Revanna and Bhavani, are also out on bail, facing accusations of kidnapping and detaining a victim of Prajwal’s alleged sexual assaults.
