Srinagar, Mar 7 (UNI) Schools in the Kashmir Valley reopened on Friday after an 87-day winter break, with students returning in high spirits, an official said.
Schools up to class 5 were closed on December 10, 2024, while classes 6 to 12 began winter vacations on December 16, 2024. The schools were scheduled to reopen on March 1 but due to inclement weather the winter vacation was extended by a week by the authorities in Kashmir valley.
The joyful students clad in school uniforms were seen waiting on the road sides at various Srinagar localities to board their buses for the school. Some students accompanied by their parents were seen walking on foot to reach schools.
“I am very happy and excited to be in school again after winter vacation to meet friends and teachers”, Izat Fatima of Birla Open Mind International School in Srinagar said.
“It is a proud moment to be in school again after spending a long winter vacation, ” another girl student at the school Zainb-al-Zohra said.
Minister of Education Sakina Itoo wished the students success.
“As Winter Zone students join their schools after winter break, I wish them success for the session and future. I appreciate support from all stakeholders, especially the teaching fraternity to make it a memorable, successful year. Best wishes to all!,” she said.
The Directorate of School Education, Kashmir, has recently instructed all Heads of Institutions to ensure a warm and conducive environment when students return to classrooms after the winter break.
