Kashmir valley experiencing warm days, colder nights

Srinagar, Jan 9 (UNI) The Kashmir Valley is experiencing warm days and colder nights, with bright sunny weather prevailing during the daytime and temperature dropping significantly after sunset.

In Srinagar and other parts of the valley, the sunshine creates a picturesque ambiance, drawing both locals and tourists outdoors. Visitors are seen enjoying the pleasant weather along the Boulevard Road on the banks of the iconic Dal Lake and near the Clock Tower at the historic Lal Chowk.

On Wednesday, the day temperature in Srinagar reached 1.9°C above the seasonal average of 6.6°C. Similarly, other weather stations across the valley reported above-normal daytime temperatures, ranging from 1°C to 4°C above the average recorded the previous day.

The night temperature continued to plummet across the Kashmir valley with Srinagar the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir dipped to -4.4°C on Thursday. This was 2.5°C below the average during this period of season, the Meteorological Department office said.

The tourist destinations of Gulmarg recorded at -9.6°C, Pahalgam -10.4°C and Sonamarg -9.4°C, remained the coldest places of the Kashmir valley on Thursday.

The minimum temperature at the ski resort of Gulmarg further slipped down to a low of -9.6°C on Thursday against the -9.0°C on Wednesday. This was 1.8°C below normal for the tourist resort of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district for the day.

Pahalgam plunged to a low of-10.4°C against the -8.2°C the previous night. This was 4.2°C below normal for the tourist spot of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district during the period.

The minimum temperature recorded during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday at the picturesque Sonamarg in central Kashmir Ganderbal district recorded at-9.4°C, improved by a degree on Thursday.

The frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara dipped to a low of -4.6°C against the -2.1°C, the picnic spot of Kokernag in south Kashmir also plunged to -5.6°C against the -1.9°C recorded the previous night and the Qazigund recorded a low of -6.2°C on Thursday against the -2.4°C recorded on Wednesday, the MeT office said.

The Meteorological Department Srinagar predicts the weather will generally remain dry till January 15 except a chance of light rain over plains of Jammu and snow at isolated to scattered places during January 11 and 12 in Jammu and Kashmir.
