New Delhi, Dec 12 (UNI) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday expressed gratitude to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar for addressing concerns over the threat of mass voter deletions in Delhi ahead of the assembly elections.
In a letter to the CEC, Kejriwal acknowledged the poll body’s commitment to safeguarding the electoral process and the right to vote for every eligible voter.
“We were all reassured by your commitment to uphold the sanctity of the electoral process and to safeguard the right to vote of each and every voter in Delhi. Specifically, we have noted the following assurances you made to us during our meeting,” he said.
Kejriwal further highlighted key assurances made by the Election Commission during a meeting held a day earlier, including a guarantee that no mass voter deletions would occur in any constituency in Delhi before the elections.
“The CEC also assured that deletions could only take place after Form 7 was filed, following due process and a ground inquiry by Election Commission officials, and not based on lists submitted by individuals or Booth Level Agents (BLAs),” Kejriwal noted.
“In cases of voter deletions, field inquiries would be conducted with due notice and in the presence of BLAs from all political parties to ensure transparency. If an individual, not a BLA, submitted names of more than five voters for deletion, the concerned Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) or Assistant ERO (AERO) would personally conduct a field inquiry,” Kejriwal writes.
The Election Commission also promised to file FIRs against those who wrongfully submitted applications for mass voter deletions, with evidence provided by AAP showing that voters genuinely existed on the ground, he mentioned.
Reaffirming AAP’s commitment to cooperating with the Election Commission to ensure a fair, transparent, and free election process in Delhi, Kejriwal said, “We look forward to your actions and orders based on the above assurances. As the largest political party in Delhi, we assure you that we are always open to any suggestions and guidance you may have so that we can play our rightful role in safeguarding the sanctity of the electoral process in Delhi.”
