Wayanad, Aug 9 (UNI) The Kerala government has demanded an amount of Rs 2000 crore assistance from the Central Government for the reconstruction of landslide-hit areas in Wayanad, PWD Minister Muhammed Riyaz, has said.
Addressing a joint press conference Riyaz and Forest Minister A K Saseedharan, said the central team that visited the disaster-affected area of Wayanad has been requested for funds for immediate rehabilitation of the affected people.
The process of relocating the people in the relief camps to their homes will start soon. Around 125 houses including government quarters have been found for this purpose. Many of these are ready for immediate occupancy. As soon as the inspection is completed under the direction of the District Collector, accommodation will be given accordingly to the survivors.
Minister Riyaz said the cleaning process needs to start immediately. At least 90 days will be required for this cleaning operation alone.
Relief amounts should be paid urgently to the disaster victims. The government has a strict stance on approaching financial institutions for repayment of loans to disaster victims. The central issues including the announcement of relaxation in loan repayment were brought to the attention of the central team.
