Killari earthquake gave lesson in disaster management: NCP chief

Latur, Oct 1 (UNI) NCP president Sharad Pawar said that thanks to the 1993 Killari earthquake that the country learned the lesson of disaster management from it and on a personal level, he got the courage to face all future crises.

“The work I did was a responsibility. Thousands of people had extended their helping hands. There were many individuals and organisations who gave charity. Within two hours of the earthquake, I reached Killari along with then Guardian Minister of Latur Vilasrao Deshmukh, Guardian Minister of Dharashiv Dr Padmasinh Patil,” he said while sharing his thoughts in the gratitude award ceremony organised by the Earthquake Action Committee at Killari village, on Saturday.

“I wish to express gratitude towards working organisations, officers and individuals,” the NCP chief said.

Pawar also gave special honour to Shantilal Mutha who took care of hundreds of children who lost their parents in the quake.
