Kohli surpasses Tendulkar, Sangakkara’s record

Dubai, Feb 23 (UNI) India’s batting star Virat Kohli added another feather to his illustrious cap, becoming the fastest batsman to reach 14,000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODIs).

He achieved this historic milestone in just 287 innings during India’s Champions Trophy clash against Pakistan in Dubai on Sunday.

Kohli surpassed the previous record held by India legend Sachin Tendulkar, who reached the milestone in 350 innings, and Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, who took 378 innings. With this, he became only the third batsman in ODI history to cross the 14,000-run mark.

The former Indian captain has been a consistent record-breaker, having been the fastest to every 1000-run milestone since breaching the 8000-run mark in June 2017. His incredible consistency and hunger for runs have seen him climb to third place on the all-time ODI run-scoring charts, edging closer to Sangakkara’s tally of 14,234 runs. Tendulkar remains the highest run-getter in ODIs with 18,426 runs to his name.

In addition to this feat, Kohli also holds the record for most centuries in ODIs, having surpassed Tendulkar’s long-standing record by scoring his 50th hundred during the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Further cementing his legacy, Kohli set another record by becoming India’s most successful fielder in ODIs, taking his 158th catch in the ongoing match against Pakistan.

As Kohli continues to rewrite the record books, cricketing fans across the globe eagerly anticipate more milestones from the modern-day great.
