Kolkata medic rape-murder: Junior doctors continue sit-in protest

Kolkata, Sep 14 (UNI) Braving heavy rains, the junior doctors’ here on Saturday continued their sit-in protest in front of Swathya Bhavan seeking justice over the rape and murder of a young medic at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

The medics sit-in protest entered the 5th day today.

The medics were seeking justice for the medic rape and murder, arrest of those involved in the crime, and resignation of city police commissioner, state health secretary and his two deputies who were allegedly involved in tampering at the site of the murder in the RG Kar hospital.

Meanwhile, the Police have arrested CPI(M) youth wing leader Kolotan Dasgupta and one Sanjib Das, a resident of Haltu, under sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, who were accused in the conspiracy to attack the protesting doctors near Swathya Bhavan after the proposed talks between Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the junior doctors failed to take off on Thursday.

The Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate during a media conference told reporters the two were arrested under Sections 224, 351, 352 of BNS after examining an audio clip, which came to light in the evening after the proposed talks failed to take off at Nabanna.

Senior police officials claimed they were sure about the authenticity of the video clip conversation between the two arrested accused.

Sanjib Das was arrested from Haltu on Friday and CPI(M)’s youth wing leader Kolotal Dasgupta this morning.

A police officer claimed Sanjib Das has admitted his voice in the audio clip. The duo would be produced before a court later today and seek 14-day police custody.

The police have beefed up security arrangements and installed more CCTV cameras at the protest site, after the audio clip went viral yesterday.

TMC spokesman Kunal Ghosh yesterday alleged there was a large-scale conspiracy to attack the protesting junior doctors at Salt Lake by some Left and ultra left miscreants and to malign the Mamata Banerjee government.

CPI(M) leader Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharya today said the Police if wanted to probe properly then they should have taken Kunal Ghosh into their custody and question him regarding the audio clip.He alleged the police were acting as the script was written by the TMC to derail the movement of the junior medics movement seeking justice for the medic murder.

CPI(M) leader Sujan Chakraborty demanded a CBI probe into the viral audio-clip to ascertain the truth. The CPI (M) has been in the protest demonstration at the BB Ganguly Street for the second day today demanding the resignation of city police commissioner Vineet Goyal.

CPI(M) leader Anadi Sahu claimed Kolotan Dasgupta was with them in the night and was falsely implicated in the alleged conspiracy.
