Paris, July 29 (UNI) India’s Lakshya Sen has delivered a masterclass performance, overcoming a pretty good challenge posed by Belgium’s Julien Carraggi in straight sets during the Group L men’s singles match on Monday.
The 18th-ranked Lakshya, a former Youth Olympics silver medallist, dazzled spectators at the La Chapelle Arena. With scores of 21-19 and 21-14, he wrapped up the match in just 43 electrifying minutes.
In the first game, Lakshya was down by four points, but with sheer grit and determination, he turned the tide in his favour. The second game saw him dominate Carraggi, ranked 52nd, with commanding precision.
But that’s not all—the drama started even before this match. On Sunday, Lakshya’s victory over Guatemala’s Kevin Cordon was unexpectedly erased from the records.
Cordon had to withdraw from the Olympics due to a left elbow injury, leading to the match result being nullified as per BWF General Competition Regulations for group stage play.
The stage is set for a thrilling showdown on Wednesday at 1:40 PM IST. Lakshya will face his biggest challenge yet against Indonesia’s third seed, Jonatan Christie.
A win in this match will propel Lakshya into the pre-quarterfinals as the group winner. The stakes are high, and the anticipation is palpable as fans are getting ready for an epic battle on the badminton court.
