New Delhi, Mar 7 (UNI) Former IPL chief Lalit Modi has acquired citizenship of the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu and has applied to the Indian High Commission in London for surrendering his Indian passport, the MEA announced today.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, addressing the weekly media briefing, said:
“He (Lalit Modi) has made an application for surrendering his passport in High Commission of India, London.
“The same will be examined in light of extant rules and procedures. We are also given to understand that he has acquired citizenship of Vanuatu.
“We will continue to pursue the case against him as required under law.”
Lalit Modi is wanted in India for alleged involvement in embezzlement of crores of rupees during his stint as the top boss of the IPL. He left the country in 2010 in the wake of the allegations.
