LoP Kharge raises the issue of dropping Preamble of Constitution from NCERT books

New Delhi, Aug 7 (UNI) The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Rajya Sabha and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday raised the issue of dropping the Preamble of Constitution from some NCERT textbooks and sought clarification from the government on it.

He also slammed the government for changing the syllabus of school books.

“The Preamble of the Constitution used to be printed in NCERT textbooks which has been removed now. Preamble is the soul of our Constitution. It lays down the fundamental principles of the Constitution and democracy such as justice, liberty, quality and fraternity,” he said.

The LoP also said that after its ‘defeat’ in Lok Sabha election, the BJP government first shifted the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and BR Ambedkar into a corner in Parliament complex and then attempts are being made to tamper with the provisions of the Constitution.

“We warn them that such changes are not acceptable to people. In order to impose their communal ideology, BJP and RSS are tampering with the syllabus of school books. The step taken by the NCERT in this regard is not correct. I demand from the government to present in detail in the House the changes made in the syllabus. We want a clarification on this,” Kharge said.
