The lotus has bloomed again in Malwa-Nimar, the largest region of the state. Out of 66 assembly seats here, BJP has won 50 seats. Last time, the party could win only 29 seats from here. Especially in Malwa i.e. Ujjain division, the BJP has performed tremendously.
Congress definitely defeated BJP in the tribal seats of Nimar region. Many ministers and senior leaders were defeated in this area. Interesting fact is that the biggest and smallest victory margin of the state has come from this region. Indore Assembly Constituency Number 2 candidate Ramesh Mendola has defeated his Congress opponent by 106000 votes. Whereas in Shajapur seat, BJP’s Arun Bhimawat defeated former minister Hukum Singh Karada of Congress by just 28 votes. Similarly, former Congress minister Bala Bachchan won from Rajpur by only 30 votes. The most famous clash of Malwa Nimar took place in assembly constituency number one, where BJP’s national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya faced Congress’ strong candidate Sanjay Shukla.
Kailash Vijayvargiya was victorious in this contest by more than 57000 votes. Cabinet ministers Jagdish Deora, Vijay Shah, Inder Singh Parmar, Usha Thakur, Tulsi Silavat, Hardeep Singh Dang, Om Prakash Saklecha and Mohan Yadav were victorious from this zone. While Rajvardhan Singh Dattigaon, Prem Singh Patel lost the election. Many senior leaders of Congress were also defeated in this election. These include former ministers Sajjan Singh Verma, Jitu Patwari and Vijayalakshmi Sadho. Some important leaders of Congress have also won. These include Youth Congress President Vikrant Bhuria and former minister Bala Bachchan. There was a big discussion about the defection of Deepak Joshi and Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat in Malwa Nimar region because their families have been with Sangh and Jan Sangh for years. In these, Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat defeated state Industries Minister Rajvardhan Singh Dattigaon in Badnawar. Whereas Deepak Joshi lost to BJP’s Ashish Sharma from Khategaon seat. There are about 11 districts of Malwa and Nimar region where BJP completely wiped out Congress. These include Indore district, where BJP succeeded in winning all 9 seats. Everyone’s eyes were on some independent candidates, among them former MP Premchand Guddu was fighting from Alot and Harsh Chauhan, son of former BJP state president Nandkumar Singh Chauhan, was fighting from Burhanpur. Both these candidates were defeated. Former BJP minister Archana Chitnis also won from Burhanpur seat.
Dr. Hiralal Alava won from JAIS
Congress performed well in Dhar, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Barwani and Khargone districts. Whereas BJP established dominance in districts like Ujjain, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Shajapur, Dewas, Indore, Khandwa, Burhanpur. The biggest blow to BJP was in Dhar district where it was defeated in 6 out of seven seats in the district. In Manawar, JAIS leader Dr. Hiralal Alava won with a narrow margin in a tough fight. Neena Verma won the Dhar seat for the fourth consecutive time. Overall, BJP has shown results similar to 2013 in Malwa and Nimar regions.
