New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) The Lok Sabha was adjourned on Wednesday till noon amid ruckus created by the Opposition during question hour over caste-related remarks of BJP MP Anurag Thakur during a discussion on Budget on the previous day.
The Opposition members on Wednesday objected to Thakur’s comment that there was suspense over the caste of those who were themselves seeking a caste census.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, amid the din in the House, the Congress has always worked to divide the country on caste lines.
“Those who are always demanding a caste census are taking exception to a remark on caste,” Rijiju said.
Reacting to Thakur’s remark, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi had said on Tuesday that it was an attack on him but he did not want an apology from the BJP leader.
“We are committed to a caste census and will pass a law from the House on the issue when we come to power,” Gandhi said, claiming that those who talk about caste census always face brickbats.
