New Delhi, Feb 6 (UNI) After witnessing three adjournments on Thursday, due to disruption by Opposition members on the issue of deportation of Indian nationals from the US, the Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day.
As soon as the House re-assembled at 3:30 pm, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made a statement on the deportation of Indians from the US.
During the statement of the Minister, the Opposition continued to create ruckus by raising slogans.
After the EAM’s statement, Speaker Om Birla requested the agitating members to maintain order in the house so that general discussion on the Union Budget can take place.
“I urge you all to go back to your seats,” the Speaker requested.
He repeatedly asked the Opposition, “Do you want discussion on the Union Budget?”
“I request my Opposition members that the public has elected you. Through the discussion on the important Union Budget, you can discuss on important issues. You can give suggestions on the financial and social matters. You can raise issues of your constituencies,” Om Birla said.
But the disruption continued leading the Speaker to adjourn the house for the day.
Earlier, as soon as the house met for the day, it was adjourned till 12 noon amid ruckus by the Opposition members demanding a discussion on the issue of deportation of Indian nationals, who were allegedly illegally living in the US.
When the house reconvened at 12 noon, the situation however remained the same. The Chair urged the Opposition members to let the house function, but the sloganeering continued. The Chair then adjourned the house till 2 pm.
When the house reassembled at 2 pm, sloganeering from the Opposition benches did not stop.
To this, Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Arjun Ram Meghwal stood up and said, “Today we will be having discussion on the important Union Budget. I request the Hon’ble members to let the discussion on the Budget take place. At 3:30 pm, our External Affairs Minister will give a suo-moto statement on the issue.
But the Opposition didn’t pay any heed to the request of the Chair, and the house was adjourned till 3:30 pm.
