Nandurbar, Mar 2 (UNI) A 13-year-old girl studying in class VIII of a school run by Maharashtra’s Tribal Development Department allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in the hostel room in Nandurbar district, police sources said on Sunday.
The victim, identified as Usha Laher Vasave, was found hanging from a hook in the girls hostel room in Shahada taluka when her friends opened the room on Sunday morning.
Police suspect the girl committed suicide on Saturday.
Vasave, a native of Atti village in Dhadgaon taluka, was a student of Ekalavya Model School in Mohida village/ However, since the work on the school building is underway, classes are currently held in the premises of the Ashram School in Sultanpur village. Bot the schools come under the Shahada taluka.
Irate parents and other relatives of the victim gathered at the Ashram school and raised slogans against its management, while declaring they would not take possession of the girl’s body until action was taken against the warden and the principal,
The BJP MLA from Shahada Rajesh Padvi, police personnel and tribal development department officials have rushed to the ashram school.
Padvi demanded the appointment of a three-member inquiry committee into the incident. Project Officer Chandrakant Pawar has assured the MLA and the protestors that such a panel would be formed.
