Make adequate arrangements in night shelters: Yogi

Gorakhpur, Dec 16 (UNI) Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday instructed officials to ensure that no one sleeps in the open during winter season and anyone found sleeping on the roadside should be brought to night shelters, and proper arrangements should be made for people’s stay in these shelter homes.

Reviewing preparations for Khichdi Mela with officials at Gorakhnath Temple, Yogi said, “Make arrangements as per the requirements of the devotees at night shelters during Khichdi Mela, which is organised at Gorakhnath Temple on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. All night shelters should have an adequate number of beds and blankets. Cleanliness must be maintained at the night shelters.”

He said that if someone does not have arrangements for food, they should be provided with a meal.

The CM mentioned that police patrolling at night is very important. “During patrolling, if anyone is found sleeping in the open, the policemen should respectfully take them to the nearest night shelter,” he said.

He said that no destitute or needy person should be seen shivering on the streets. “Respectable arrangements should be made for their stay at night shelters. If someone appears mentally disturbed on the streets, they should be sent to shelters for the mentally retarded,” he said.

Yogi directed that if someone is repeatedly found near the roadside at night, a thorough investigation should be made. He directed the officials to take effective action against those involved in antisocial activities.

He asked the officials to make adequate arrangements for bonfires at every place during the cold weather and Khichdi Mela.

While gathering information about the preparations for the Khichdi Mela, the CM emphasised that the safety, convenience and well-being of the devotees coming to the mela should be a priority. He mentioned that devotees should not face any difficulties.

He said, “Special attention should be given to crowd control, security, traffic management, and cleanliness. Timely inspection of all streetlights along the temple route should be conducted, and if any issues are found, they should be rectified.”

During this process, officials from various departments, including PWD, Municipal Corporation, Police, Electricity Department, Telecommunications, Health Department, Supply Department, Forest Department and Forest Corporation, North Eastern Railway, and Transportation Department, briefed the CM on their preparations for the Khichdi Mela.
