New Delhi, Oct 7 (UNI) Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu was on Monday accorded a ceremonial welcome and a Guard of Honour at the Rashtrapati Bhavan ahead of holding key bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Maldives President, who arrived on Sunday afternoon, is on a five day state visit to India at the head of a high-level delegation. This is his first bilateral visit to India since he took over earlier this year. He had come to India in June to attend the swearing in ceremony of PM Modi and his ministerial tea.
The MEA spokesperson in a post on X said:
“A landmark State visit begins with a ceremonial welcome and Guard of Honour to President @MMuizzu of Maldives at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan.”
Both President Droupadi Murmu and PM Modi were present at Rashtrapati Bhavan to welcome President Muizzu.
The Maldivian president later went to Rajghat to lay a floral wreath at the mausoleum of Mahatma Gandhi.
“President @MMuizzu of Maldives paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat today.
“Mahatma’s teachings continue to inspire us.”
