Imphal, June 15 (UNI) The Congress party has demanded an immediate end to the crisis in Jiribam district, which has led to the displacement of about 1600 people. An advance convoy of Chief Minister N Biren Singh that went to Jiribam district was attacked by Kuki militants, which led to the injuries of three security personnel earlier. The Chief Minister has yet to visit the district.
A meeting of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) was held on Saturday at Congress Bhawan, presided over by K. Meghachandra, President, MPCC.
The meeting minutely discussed the present turmoil at Jiribam District, and the PAC resolved to appeal to the central and state governments to control the situation immediately, which has been occurring since June 6, 2024. It also appealed to save the lives and properties of the general public.
The central and state forces deployed in the Jiribam District should be utilised properly to restore peace and harmony as before the meeting was resolved. S. Jeeten Singh, Gen. Secy Administration, said the meeting also decided to appeal to the central and state governments to restore peace and harmony in the state of Manipur by exercising the powers and duties of the state government . provided under the Constitution of India. Dr. Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, who was elected as MP from Inner Manipur, was inducted as a member of the PAC.
